The Myosa® sleep appliance system provides advanced options for patients seeking SDB treatment solutions, has the correction of poor breathing habits at its core. Rather than just focus on alleviating the symptoms of Sleep Disordered Breathing, the philosophy behind the Myosa® appliance range is aimed at treating the upper airway and neuromuscular dysfunction that are the fundamental causes of Sleep Disordered Breathing.

MyOSA for Snorers

A COMFORTABLE, CONVENIENT AND EFFECTIVE WAY TO ALLEVIATE SNORING

The Myosa® for Snorers range includes two appliances specifically designed for snorers who breathe through their mouth while sleeping. The appliances alleviate snoring by slightly advancing the sleeper’s lower jaw, correcting tongue position and opening the bite, which has the effect of opening the airway.

Snoring occurs when the flow of air through the nose or mouth is obstructed during sleep. While this airflow obstruction is typically caused by relaxation and poor muscle tone around the throat and jaws there are many underlying causes of snoring. The most common of these underlying causes are chronic mouth breathing, poor diet, body size and poor forward development of the jaws. Additionally, orthodontics with extractions can make breathing problems worse.

The Myosa® for Snorers S1 is specifically designed for snorers who breathe through their mouth while sleeping. The appliance alleviates snoring by slightly advancing the sleeper’s lower jaw and opening the bite, which opens the airway. Additionally, the Myosa® for Snorers S1 is made from flexible material so it is gentle on the jaw joints (TMJ) and suitable for people with jaw joint (TMJ) disorder.

The Myosa® for Snorers S2 is specifically
designed for snorers who are not chronic mouth
breathers or who have already undergone treatment
with the S1 appliance. The appliance, which includes
the same myofunctional characteristics as the S1 but is more comfortable, alleviates snoring by advancing the sleeper’s lower jaw and opening the bite, although to a lesser extent than the S1. Because of its smaller breathing holes, the Myosa® for Snorers S2 appliance also optimises breathing regulation by requiring some breathing through the nose then once the lips close over the breathing holes retraining to breathe through the occurs.

MyOSA for Juniors & Kids age 2-12

Increasingly, it has become apparent that the myofunctional causes of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) begin to develop during early childhood. If these causes are left unchecked, a child’s SDB can result in a variety of childhood disorders, ranging from enlarged tonsils and adenoids to learning difficulties and behavioural problems.

By focusing early on correcting the upper airway compromise and neuromuscular dysfunction causing SDB, the Myosa® for Juniors and the Myosa® for Kids appliances ensure lifelong health complications are avoided.

Rather than allow airway dysfunction to persist into adulthood, the Myosa® for Juniors (ages 2-6) and the Myosa® for Kids (ages 6-12) corrects SDB by addressing the upper airway compromise and neuromuscular dysfunction, which causes it.

The Myosa® for Juniors is a small sized appliance for children aged between two and six-years-old. The appliance is ideal for treating the causes of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) in the primary dentition stage and works by correcting the lower jaw position to open the airway, regulating the breathing and posturing the tongue in the upper jaw.

The Myosa® for Kids is a medium sized appliance for children aged between six and 12-years-old. The appliance is ideal for treating the causes of SDB in the mixed dentition stage and works by correcting the lower jaw position to open the airway, regulating the breathing and posturing the tongue in the upper jaw.

MyOSA for TMJ Disorders

Jaw joint (TMJ) disorder is a complex issue encompassing a wide range of symptoms and an equally wide range of treatment philosophies. The Myosa® for TMJ Disorder range of myofunctional appliances has been designed with the purpose of assisting with immediate diagnosis and symptom relief right from the first consultation with your doctor.
Because jaw joint (TMJ) disorder involves the teeth, facial muscles and jaw joints interacting to produce a wide range of symptoms, the Myosa® for TMJ Disorder range works by decompressing the jaw joint (TMJ) and moving the lower jaw into the correct position as well as limiting bruxing, mouth breathing and incorrect myofunctional habits.

The Myosa® TMJ appliance is specifically designed
to act as a universal, initial diagnostic and treatment tool for jaw joint (TMJ) disorder. The appliance, which does not require any special fitting or adjustment, should be used one hour each day and overnight for a minimum of 30 to 60 days. This initial period of wear should enable the patient to determine how much continued use is needed to maintain symptom relief.

By assisting to decompress the jaw joint (TMJ), correct mouth breathing and tongue posture as well as limit teeth grinding the Myosa® TMJ alleviates symptoms by relieving pressure on the jaw joints and relaxing muscles around the jaw and neck.

The Myosa® TMD appliance is specifically designed for the diagnosis and treatment of jaw joint (TMJ) Disorder. The appliance, which should be fitted and customised by your doctor to the correct therapeutic bite, has a comfortable low profile allowing for daytime use and unimpeded speech.

When combined with night time use of the Myosa® TMJ, the Myosa®TMD is suitable
for patients experiencing more severe symptoms of jaw joint (TMJ) disorder.

MyOSA for Teeth Grinders

Teeth grinding, or bruxing, is another common symptom associated with mouth breathing and then exacerbated by stress or nervous tension. This grinding can cause damage to the teeth including visible enamel wearing, tooth cracking or loose teeth.

While the entire Myosa® range will offer some protection against the damage caused by teeth grinding, the Myosa® for Teeth Grinders is designed specifically for this purpose and provides a protective barrier between the teeth. Intended to wear with use, these appliances can be easily replaced to prevent damage to the teeth.

The Myosa® for Teeth Grinders - TG is specifically designed to provide an immediate protective barrier against night time teeth grinding and works best for patients who do not show any symptoms of jaw joint (TMJ) disorder.  The appliance, which can be fitted in less than two minutes, fits firmly and comfortably over the upper teeth and provides a soft, flexible barrier that protects the teeth as well as the jaw joints (TMJ) from the effects of teeth grinding. The Myosa® TG is recommended for night time use as well as during the day if necessary.

The Myosa® for Teeth Grinders – TGH is specifically designed for heavy tooth grinders
who may also experience symptoms of jaw joint (TMJ) disorder. The dual layer appliance, which has a hard inner core encased in a soft outer provides a firm fit and optimum retention for the upper teeth as well as additional durability to protect against severe grinding. An thickened base provides extra protection at the molar area and ensures the appliance is gentle on the jaw joints (TMJ) and suitable for people with symptoms of jaw joint (TMJ) Disorder.
